Exercise Rowers can provide one of the most intense work outs. One well known brand of rowing fitness machine was voted the best piece of gym and home fitness equipment for several years and with good reason. You only have to look at the like of Sir Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pincent to see what it can do for your fitness levels. There are so many exercise rowers out there so it is hard to know which one is the best for you. We have put together a few pointers when to help you choose an exercise rower, but first here are a few reasons to own one:

  • They provide a total body work-out
  • Great for all fitness levels
  • They are low impact
  • They are small and can often fold up
  • They can be fairly inexpensive
  • They are portable
  • They are easy to use

So when you have decided an exercise rower is for you, either to help you with general fitness, weight loss or rowing fitness you will see that there are hundreds to choose from ranging in various types. Having used most of them either ourselves or with clients we can help you with what to look out for. The list below will give you an idea of what to consider:
  • Set your budget - They can range in price from cheap to very expensive
  • Choose the type of resistance - Air and Water rowers are the best but some magnetic ones are good. We prefer Air rowers!
  • If you have back problems consult a doctor or fitness professional before you buy
  • Follow the manual for the correct rowing technique
  • If space is an issue look for folding ones
  • Check the features of the rower - Does it have a heart rate monitor, programmes, or distance/time displays?
  • Make sure it comes with a warranty or returns policy
Once you have done you research and are ready to buy, look for a bargain. Get yourself used to exercise rowers by practising in a gym, shop or at a friends house or as they are easy to use simply give it a go. They are great for fitness and provide a thorough upper and lower body work out.
We hope we have helped. If you would like to discuss it with a trainer then please do a fitness trainer search to find one near you.
